Back by popular demand we bring you photos sent to us by our readers. Apparently no sailor can avoid being proud of the boat he owns and impressed by other boats he sees while out there sailing. Some of these are boats in action, some are at rest. All are boats well loved.
Morgan 382
A photo of my 1978 Morgan 382. When I purchased the boat, it was a mess. It had lots of interior wood to replace including the cabin sole and the headliner. It looks great now doesn’t it? I’m very proud of the way it came out but it still needs some finishing touches. -- Thomas McNulty

This is a picture of a 1983 Hunter 20 we purchased 2 years ago. Since then we have recovered all of the cushions, purchased new sails and a roller furler, added a new tiller and a new 5 HP engine. This is our first sailboat after being “power only” for the last 10 years. This picture is our view across the bow of the boat and looking out across the Barnegat Bay in NJ. The trick to this picture is that we have an 8 X 10 copy framed and sitting at the base of our fireplace. When you sit on the couch in the family room and look toward the picture, you can almost feel yourself back on the boat trying to catch up with the bigger boat in front of us. It makes the winter months that much more tolerable. -- Peggy and John Frayne

Tim & Tina Duffin - wedding day Aug 2010, BYC, Bay of Quinte, Ontario. Tim was planning a Caribbean cruise honeymoon but when he weighed the costs he realized that for about the same price he could buy a sail boat! Tina agreed and they bought this beautiful good old boat, a 1976, 30ft Tartan number 323. First time boat owners. First time sailors. They honeymoon sailed the Thousand Islands. Tim said he was very grateful to so many good old sailors who provided tips about his boat, and told him about private moorings, beautiful hide-away bays and shallow shoals to avoid.
San Juan 24
Your cover for January/February 2011 inspired me to send this photo of "Flasher", one of two actively raced San Juan 24s on Flathead Lake, MT. Flasher finished 2nd overall in the South Flathead Sailing Association series out of Dayton, MT this summer. Thanks for a great magazine. -- Steve Connell

The photo, Gypsy Spirit, Coronado 35, was taken mid September of 2006. The occasion was my churches annual 3 day men's sailing outing in Lake Superior's Apostle Islands. (CV Sail '06) In 2006 we had 13 guys on two boats. There were 8 sailing on the Gypsy Spirit. I was sailing on the other boat that day and had an excellent opportunity to get some really cool pix of my boat. Schooner, Rose of Sharon
Built in 1930 at the Eastern Shipyards in Nova Scotia for an eastern seaboard owner, she was in Escanaba, Michigan from 1940 to 1970 and in Newport Beach, California since 1970. Originally painted white, she is now a shimmering black and in immaculate condition, winning silver on every trip and still holds a record from California to Hawaii. I sailed on her as a young cabin boy in 1950-53 and have made 3 recent trips to California to participate in recent racing events – yes – 60 years later. Nonsuch 26
We have owned XTASEA TU, our Nonsuch 26, for the last five years. I feel that this boat has extended our sailing life by about 10 years. We call her our "stick trawler." When the wind goes light or starts to pipe up to the point that makes it uncomfortable, we simply let go the halyard, down comes the main into the "cats cradle," on goes the iron topsail, and we motor along nice and comfortable. -- Chuck Jones
Bayfield 25
Our 1974 Bayfield 25 is called Rozanati, after Don Quixote's mule in Man of La Mancha. We did not name the boat, but our last name is Rozema so of course we had to buy it. We sail out of Lagoon city yacht club on Lake Simcoe <http://www.lcyc.com>. Lake Simcoe is a large lake north of Toronto on the Trent Severn Waterway. Sailing in Spinnaker

2010 Stone Horse Builder's Cup
August 15, 2010, Padanaram, MA. Sunny skies and a brisk 12-14 knot Southeast wind made for spectacular sailing at the 2010 Stone Horse Builder's cup. The Race Committee did a fine job, setting the line, communicating with competitors and choosing the course. The four leg course was a three mile triangle with the first leg repeated for a windward finish. The photo is Butterfly on starbard tack, Windfall on port tack. Five Stone Horses competed, manned by 14 hardy men and woman. Thirty-five participants and guests attended the post race, rendezvous festivities, including 11 Stone Horse owners. -- Tom Kenney
Nonsuch Rendezvous 2010
Barbara and I have just returned from the biennial Nonsuch Rendezvous which was held in Kingston, Ontario this year. This was our second time for this event; we also attended in 2002, also in Kingston. It was a pleasant surprise when, upon opening the packet given us at registration, there was a complimentary copy of GOB!
On Monday and Tuesday there was "around the bouys racing" for the racers and sails to nearby ports for lunch for the cruisers. Wednesday was seminar day with presentations by experts on the care and feeding of our good old Nonsuches. Especially memorable was a display of and presentation by this fellow of the model he had built of his Nonsuch 260. Thursday we all raced from Kingston to Ganenoque (about 14 miles) where we had a banquet. On Friday we raced back to Kingston. That evening we had another banquet after which various awards and trophys were presented.
During the week, I regularly wore my GOB cap and handed out my GOB business cards to all I met. The model presentation gave me a little notoriety after Wednesday which facilitated meeting and greeting. -- Paul
Windjammers Sailing Club
The photo is a group of Good Old Boats that sail out of Cedar Creek on Barnegat Bay in New Jersey. We are all members of the Windjammers Sailing Club and decided to raft up on a hot July night. Pictured are (L to R): a 24’ 1971 Yankee Dolphin, a 1967 Greenwich 24, a 1971 Irwin 32, a 1968 Pearson 35, a 1970 Bristol 35, and a 1970 Morgan 30. A 1970 Bristol 32 had slipped off moments earlier. C&C Corvette
On July 03/04, 2010 I had the opportunity to sail from Bayfield to Grand Bend. Sailing on the water at night has been one of my goals since buying Dulcinea (a 1967 C&C Corvette Hull #29) 3 years ago. Having just rigged and wired my new (read that old) period C&C & Wilxcox Crittendon navigation lights I decided to have a go on your Independence Day eve.
On a crystal clear night with a steady S/W wind on a 240 degree port tack and a 150 degree S/B tack I made my way south at 4 - 5 knots towards Grand Bend. From my vantage polint about 5 nautical miles out on Lake Huron I could see fireworks going off along the American and Canadian shorelines - what a sight!

Morgan 30
This is our 1969 Morgan 30, hull #23. We have been restoring her for the last two years. She went from sitting in a barn for years with raccoons living on her, to taking 2nd-(nonspinnaker) in the Copper Cup Regatta in Oconto Wisconsin (the bay of Green Bay). Ranger 29
A friend snapped this picture of our 1974 Ranger 29. These were taken in Broughton Strait between Northern Vancouver Island and Malcolm Island with Port McNeill, BC in the background - the best sailing grounds on the West Coast! I enjoy Good Old Boat, now my wife has ordered me a year's subscription. The magazine deals with the kind of boats that are similar to ours in age and technology. -- Allan Farrant
Morgan 24 & Alberg 35
This was about 4 years ago. It was a great sail for me coming from Block Island, RI to West Harbor at Fishers Island, NY. In the morning I went out in my dinghy and took pictures of my Morgan 24 and the Alberg 35 in a light fog. C&C Corvette
Dulcinea is a 1967 C&C Corvette. I have been refitting her, but I am not finished yet - and I am sure the owner of every "good old boat" will understand!
Our 1st mate's name is Able Seaman "Bullett". He is a 5 month old Cane Corso (Italian mastiff) and weighs 65 pounds - he should top out around 120lbs when he is done growing. He is friendly but always "woofs" a warning whenever anyone (or boat) comes near. "Bullett" is still new to the game of sailing - he wears a harness in case he goes overboard. The lifejacket is mine - cheers! -- David Hughes
Bristol 34
This is our Bristol 34, Peregrine. We fell in love with a larger boat than we were looking for that had apparently received little or no maintenance for the previous ten years. Knowledgeable friends told us to run—not walk— away. But we bought her anyway and we've never regretted it; she's the perfect boat for us. We did a major overhaul during the first two years we owned her, and have continued the upgrade process since then. -- Jim Fulton.

O'Day 25
This is a picture of my 1983 25ft. O'Day sailboat , The picture was taken October of 2008. I call it "October Solo Sail". As you can see there was a steady blow, and that is me at the helm. The boat is moored and sailed at Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park in southwest PA. Lake Arthur is a home to many Good Old Boats. Many people learned how to sail on this lake and ventured off to sailing the Chesapeake Bay and Lake Erie. Fair winds. -- Mike O'Shurak
Pearson 39
This is a shot of our 1971 Pearson 39. It’s hull #19. We purchased it last year and have been sailing all winter out of Sointula BC. Sointula is at the west end of Johnstone Straight between Vancouver Island and mainland BC.
We have had some exceptional sailing days all winter long. The winds are 5 to 25 kts and the cooler air is heavy. These particular shots were taken March 12, 2010. -- Jim MacDougall, Sointula BC, Canada.
US Yacht 25
This is a photo of me towing a power boat I found disabled with a seasick skipper 2 miles offshore while sailing our 1982 US Yacht 25 from Niantic, CT to New London in a very stiff breeze and 4 foot seas. Since he was trying to get to New London also, I threw him a line and towed him to New London harbor and up the Thames River under main sail alone. It drew a lot of attention from curious onlookers! -- George Berntsen
Brewer 41
Robert and Elyse Brown have returned from a circumnavigation aboard Iron Mistress, a modified Brewer 41 cutter with radius chine hull. They completed a double-handed circumnavigation between 2003 and 2008: 38,000 nautical miles with no major breakdowns. They recently wrote to designer Ted Brewer: "Your modified Corten design has sailed around the world successfully -- built by Mooney Marine. Allied Seawind 30.5
This is a photo of my 1962 Allied Seawind 30.5 ketch, hull # 7. The boat is in excellent condition. The picture was taken at Medio Mundo Passage off the coast of Ceiba, PR. It's a very good anchorage on the lee of the island. -- Robert Rodriguez
Sandy Point Lighthouse
The picture of Sandy Point Lighthouse was taken while we were sailing north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge after competing in the 2009 Hospice Cup in Annapolis, MD. We are sailing a 1974 Dufour 27, the winds on that rainy day varied from the East, South and West at 3 to 25 Knots.
During the race, we had to reef the Main before the start, unreef the Main and roll in the the Genoa on the next leg and then we rolled out the Genoa for the down wind leg. Oh, what fun my husband and his friend Alberto had. -- Donna Paden

Rhodes 22
I'm always thankful for the Good Old Boat review of the Rhodes 22 (back in 2004, I think) which clinched my search for a small keelboat. I ordered Lady Grace (right) shortly after reading your glowing review....what a wonderful boat she's turned out to be! She's kept on a mooring in front of my house here on Pleasant Lake in New London, NH. Always sad to put her away for the long winter....the picture shows her last sail amidst our beautiful fall colors here in New England.
As your review pointed out, her in mast furling...unique for a 22 footer....perfectly compliments me as a single handed sailor. Our mountain lake is subject to highly variable and sometimes quite severe winds. Her sail plan gives me an infinite range of choices to perfectly match our ever changing sailing conditions. Searunner 25
Bear watches departure. Taken by my wife as I sailed away from dock and dog at Longbranch, WA in my Searunner 25, Halloween 2006. It was blowing about 30 knots outside the bay, and I needed that double reef and the #1 jib. I learned a lot about prudence that day, and was thankful to have had no passengers as I beat to windward with the incoming tide; three hulls are better than one, but not in a steep chop on a tough beat. -- Will Saunders, Olympia, WA

O'Day 25
After living in Rochester, NY for over 20 years, I finally got out on Lake Ontario after my father-in-law realized his dream of having a boat by purchasing a '77 O'Day 25 that needed a little TLC after being abandoned in a local yard. I realized a dream I hadn't known I'd had of having unlimited access to a sailboat for myself and my family.
These pictures are of the first family sail with my wife and 4 kids after the boat, Day Dreamer, was finally in the water late in the season. We went out on a Sunday morning, and had a great time as a family enjoying the boat on the water. If you look closely, I couldn't even get the main all the way up, as we had a couple jammed sheaves, but we weren't going to let that stop us. We dropped the mast the next week, cleaned up the sheaves and got everything working better than ever. -- Wes Nance, Rochester, NY

Stick in the Mud
Doug Sherr sends this photo of his boat stuck in the mud at Matanzas Pass at Ft. Myers Beach. He says he's thinking of making a poster of it, since it brings a smile to the faces of all who see it. We suspect that he may not have been smiling the day he took this photo, however.
Morgan 321
Weekend Pass is a 1982 Morgan 321. I have owned her for five years now having purchased her in Florida in 2004. She is a nice basic coastal cruiser with a new Yanmar 3GM and new suit of sails. Weekend Pass is easily driven to hull speed with a 135 genoa and standard main. I added a bit of new teak trim to the companionway hatch and sea hood but otherwise all of the wood is original with a good bit of TLC and some Cetol Light added. I have applied Brightside polyurethane paint to the non-skid areas. All of the gelcote is original. It is amazing what a 2000 grit wet sanding, polishing and waxing will do to bring the best out of a 27 year old hull.
I spend as much time as I can get away with my wife Karen and my two daughters Kathleen and Emma sailing her on the Magothy River, the Chesapeake Bay and the Wye River. I had always wanted to get pictures of Weekend Pass underway and my wife obliged this obsession and took this shot on a really nice late morning on the Magothy River this past September. My wife Karen was located in a chase boat owned by my older brother Michael. She took nearly 400 pictures that morning with a Nikon D50 digital SLR camera.
Thanks for such a nice magazine. It keeps me sane through the winter!
Newport 27-S MKII
Thanks to your including it in Mailbuoy, I’ve discovered an amazing new avenue for my techy interests -- Kite Aerial Photography ! -- and can’t wait to get my own kite and (waterproof) camera and try snapping my own shots of our newly refurbished ’83 Newport 27-S MKII I call Listen, with our new Epifanes Bold Yellow top-sides … (rolled with a “mohair” roller … did NO tipping, with gorgeous results!)
Here’s a shot we took last month from our dingy, nestled into Worton Creek at dusk, on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake, across from Baltimore and Middle River. San Juan 21
I bought the boat from the original owner last fall, knowing very little about sailing except that it sounded like something fun that I wanted to try. We towed it 1,200 miles down to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico at the end of February and took a sailing lesson, then spent most of March sailing daily and practicing the basics. When we returned home to Colorado we put the boat in at the reservoir closest to our house, Chatfield, just to be able to go out in the evening after work and get some experience. This photo was taken on such an evening in May. We set the sails for a nice downwind run using the whisker pole (wing and wing, main sail out on one side and the jib out to the other) very pleasant downwind sailing in a light breeze. In 2 months we sailed over a hundred nautical miles on a reservoir only 1500 acres in size, so you know we did lots of tacking and jibing. Today we had snow here and the boat's back in the garage, where it will get some more upgrades, like interior cushions and paint, before going back to Mexico in February. The boat is a 1976 San Juan 21 named Emma Joy, after our dog. -- Dave Homerding, Idledale, CO.

Catalina 30
Umiak is a Catalina 30 that belongs to Carole D'Aoust-Martin of our club. Ladies Sailing Night is a regular event at our club. The women say they like going out and just having fun on the water without men yelling at them and getting hyper when the spill a bit of wind. The photographer, Shirley Macdonald, has taken a lot of shots for us over the years. We include them in our newsletters, on our website photo journals and have albums available in our club house. -- Don Davies

C&C Corvette
Another pic of Dulcinea under a beautiful Lake Huron sky off Bayfield, ON just a few days ago. "Sunny - sunny - sunny days!" No filter, just good old mother nature and my camera conspiring to give me a good pic in spite of my efforts to do otherwise! I was sailing alone and had to dash forward, step over the genoa sheets (it was the only sail running at the time), fire off a few quick pics and then dash back to the cockpit to grab the tiller before we fell off the wind and I found myself in irons. Ericson 30
This is an aerial photo taken from a kite camera as we were sailing back from Block Island last weekend. Credit for the photo goes to Bruce Perry who flew the kite from the cockpit. The boat belongs to us: Bill Litke and Joanne Zanella – Litke. She is a 1970 Ericson 30 – 1 which has had many upgrades over the 11 years we have owned her. One of the workers signed underneath a hatchboard the date 8-7-69 so we have used this date to celebrate the 40th birthday of TUMULT 2. Flying Scots
I wanted to pass along the attached photo. It was taken at sunset this past month of a portion of the New Castle Sailing Club fleet on the Delaware River off New Castle, DE. The boats are Thistles and Flying Scots. The entire fleet of 12 boats are mutually owned by the clubs members who pay a $300 per year fee and have full access to the boats (once certified), weekly instruction, and Saturday races. It's a wonderful scenario. Very affordable and almost eliminates the need and expense of buying your own boat. Our club and others like it may be a good ol story for the magazine. Allied Ludders 33
This is a picture of our Allied Luders 33. The picture was taken in June at Stockton Island in the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior.The boat is/was a 1969 Annapolis Boat Show boat and has been in our family since 1975. This boat has sailed from Lake Superior to the Bahamas and back three times and still shows and sails like new! -- Luanne Fogelson

Beneteau F235
A nice sunset pic of a recent row back from our ‘91 Beneteau F235 Peregrine, which we keep moored in a sailboat-only cove on 5,000 acre Lake Jacomo in Fleming Park, just east of Kansas City. Peregrine is in the rear on the left, on the outside. I’m working the dink with girlfriend Diann (stern) and friend Karen (bow) aboard. A perfect June evening, 75 degrees and a five knot breeze – enough to keep the sleepers all pointed in one direction – up the cove. Tartan 30
I just received the latest edition and saw the Tartan 30 photo on page 6. This is our Tartan 30C we purchased in 2007 and have been working to restore. Last year the topsides were sanded, primed and awlgripped. Following was re-setting the portlites to stop leaks and replacing surrounding wood. Now it is engine work and exhaust system. It will be many years before we have it where we want it to be but what a great project to have. June 6 was a beautiful day in Pensacola FL. After the start of a local race we crossed the line in front of the committee boat and got this photo. She is Tartan 200 and we named her Ruach. It is a hebrew word which means Holy Wind- Rush of Wind -Spirit Wind- the part of the soul that returns to God. All meanings fit for me when we are sailing! -- Scott Wilson\Pace, Florida (Pensacola)
Stone Horse
Rubaiyat is a Stone Horse pocketcruiser, aka knockabout, built by Edey & Duff in Mattapoisett, Mass. My wife and I had just trimmed her close after leaving the Rondout Creek for a wonderful Memorial Day sail. She had just been commissioned a few days earlier and this day-sail proved to be a wonderful shake-down cruise. We had unusually steady 12 knot winds out of the North for about 4 hours. The view includes the base of the sitka spruce mast, the underside of the main boom, the trim of the staysail, the port & starboard dorade boxes, various rigging and the east shore of the Hudson about a half-mile North of the Rhinecliff RR station. -- Larry Arvidson
Ensign
I am learning about boating photography by volunteering my time for our local sailing community. I have a photo that I called "On the Edge" from last week's Sealake Yacht Sales & Lakewood Yacht Club's Shoe Regatta on Galveston Bay. It's a 25-30 + year old Ensign that broached, recovered and won the race. In fact, I have some nice shots all of the 5 Ensigns. There are about 15 of these beautiful boats left after Ike, mainly from the Houston Yacht Club, and I think it would make a great story called "Still Crazy After All These Years!" Maybe I can try my hand at writing and interview old friends from HYCL that have many stories about the "Gentlemen Racers". -- Jimmy Rogers

We love Good Old Boat magazine, have been subscribers since 2003 before we bought our cruising sailboat, a Kenner Privateer Ketch, Stardust. I took this picture from up on the mainmast in 2005. C&C Corvette
This pic was taken from the cockpit of Dulcinea, our 1967 C&C "Corvette" (Hull #29) last September on a beautiful fall evening at Bayfield, ON.
Dulcinea, showing her age and patina from many years of wandering the Great Lakes, was purchased in July 2008 from her 2nd owner Erwin Embacher of Thornbury, On. She is my first "good old boat" and I intend to restore her fully to her former glory with modern conveniences as time and money permit. Bristol 29
Steve, my boat partner and I were invited to Lakewood Yacht Club's 14th Annual "Keels&Wheels Concours d'Elegance." Maloha, our good old Bristol 29 took 'Best in Class.' After 4 yrs. of work, this show was really a high. Now it's time to catch up on our sailing. And if anyone asks how you bring an old derelict back to this stage; you have to find two ladies like Pam and BJ who will let you go to the boat every weekend and support the effort. --Niels Daugbjerg

Gaff-rigged sloop 21
Ahoy! Attached is a pic of Flying Hambone, a Gaff-rigged sloop I bought in New Orleans while in college...I trucked her to California after graduation and spent a lot of time on Whiskeytown Lake, near Redding, California, where the picture was shot...she was built in Michigan and sailed down the Mississippi to The Big Easy where, I was told, her builder lived aboard her for a few years, she is only 21' LOA. San Juan 21
Here's my wife, Barb Homerding, at the tiller on our 1976 San Juan 21, Emma Joy (after our dog), which I bought from the original owner here in Colorado. Last fall I did a few upgrades (new electrical) and maintenance (new trailer bearings) over the winter in my garage, and trailered to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico (about 1,200 miles each way) for 17 days of sailing in the Sea of Cortez in early March. Being newbie sailors we took a lesson from Vince Radice the first day and spent the rest of the time practicing the basics and having a great time...this weekend we put it in our local lake, and plan on getting a lot more experience. -- Dave Homerding, Idledale, Colorado
